OUT OF GAS?
“Be filled with the Spirit and you’ll never run out of gas.”
Eph 5:18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit
Just as we need gas or diesel to operate our vehicles, Christians need to be fueled with the Holy Spirit! We are presently in a gas crunch, especially in the Southeast states of America. We would not attempt to make any kind of trip with an empty fuel tank. Yet some try to keep journeying in these difficult days, with our lives depleted of the Spirit! The scripture above reveals that we can be filled with the Spirit. If we can be filled, then we can be emptied, right? We don’t fill our gas tanks and expect to be able to drive 100,000 miles without refueling many times. True?
The happenings in life can drain us. Sometimes happenings are so adverse, they can stop us in our tracks and make us feel that we cannot go on. How we need to go to God, the source of the Holy Spirit, to be refilled, again and again. The phrase in Eph. 5:18 “but be filled with the Spirit,” means a constant filling. Like putting a drinking glass in the sink, turning on the tap and letting the water continually fill the glass. If you leave it under the flowing spout, the glass will be in a state of constant overflowing! This is the picture of how God keeps us revived and full of joy and His strength! People that live in this continual state of overflow are never found on the side of the road and out of the race! No! They are found running strong through it all! They are the ones who can even give roadside assistance when others are out of gas!
Here is the wonderful promise that you can receive constant refueling: Luke 11:13 "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will [your] heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!"
The best gift we can receive from God, after our salvation, is a continual refilling of the Holy Spirit. We don’t receive more by deserving more, oh no, we receive more by simply asking! So go ahead, ask! There is no shortage! There is no need to panic! There is an endless supply! HALLELUJAH!
Every blessing!
