LEANING ON THE EVERLASTING ARMS

When I cannot read, when I cannot think, when I cannot even pray, I can trust.

Job 13:15(A) Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.

As far back into my childhood as my memory will take me, I remember singing in Church. For sure, one of the most memorable of all hymns was, “Leaning On The Everlasting Arms.” I had absolutely no idea of the meaning of the words. Now 55 years beyond those early days, I have learned much about the meaning of the song! I have learned that not only are those mighty arms everlasting, they are also never failing.

It is not clear to me, that old Job even knew that there was a devil who was out to destroy him. For him to say, “Even though He (God) is trying to kill me, I am still going to trust Him.” This is an indicator that Job believed that God was against him. You read, “If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Rom. 8:31) You may think, “How can He be for me when I am experiencing this pain or suffering through that hardship?” Think on this, “While we were yet sinners, Christ died FOR US! (Rom. 5:8) The word “sinners” means, pre-eminently sinful, especially wicked. So realize that if Christ wanted to save us and present us as His to God while we were “especially wicked,” how much more is He for those of us who are running after Him now? As the old chorus phrase goes, “Though the devil hate us, he can never separate us from the wonderful love of God!” Friend, all of our sufferings and trials will, down the road, only serve to show us a greater revelation of His great love FOR US, which passes all human comprehension! (Eph. 3:19)

Every blessing!
