GETTING PAST YOUR PAST

Php. 3:13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing [I do], forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, NKJV

Without a doubt, one of my biggest hangups, or perhaps better said, one of my toughest barriers to break through, has been my past. I have an incredibly shameful past! So shameful that I felt that I could not be forgiven. Thanks be to God, four years into my feeble walk with Jesus, in His mercy, He brought me past my past! Jesus opened my eyes to see that His Grace was greater than all my sin!

What was perhaps even harder for me to deal with, was my coming short of the glory of God at times, after I had returned to Jesus! It took quite some time, but I learned that Grace was not only the means to overcome sin (Rom. 6:14), it was also the power to put the painful memory of my sin, behind me! Don’t get me wrong, the commission of sin in the child God, should grieve us deeply. However, to wallow in it and to keep looking back at it, is not what the Lord wants for us! We should also shout loudly to God’s Glory, that Jesus has paid the price for every sin, past, present and future! When we confess sin and forsake it, God forgives it and forgets it! (1John 1:9) He washes us clean in the Blood of Jesus Christ His Son! Since Jesus forgets about our failures of the past, why shouldn’t we? When sin is under His blood, it is time to get over it! Who is he that condemns? It is Christ who died and rose again for us! (Rom. 8:34) The past is past. It’s is a brand new morning with brand new mercies! (Lam. 3:22-23)

Look (away) unto Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith! (Heb. 12:2) HALLELUJAH!
