BON APPETIT
““The greatest enemy of hunger for God is not poison but apple pie. It is not the banquet of the wicked that dulls our appetite for heaven, but endless nibbling at the table of the world. It is not the X-rated video, but the prime-time dribble of triviality we drink in every night… For when these replace an appetite for God Himself, the idolatry is scarcely recognizable, and almost incurable.””
Psalm 107:9 For He satisfies the longing soul, And fills the hungry soul with goodness.
Recently, I was at a wedding rehearsal. I was not expecting a dinner to follow. Sadly, Tammy and I had eaten some snacks to tide us over until we could return home from the rehearsal. Not knowing how long we would be out, we snacked too much. To our chagrin, there was a beautiful meal. Our eyes were saying, "Eat!" Yet, our stomachs said, "Where are you going to put it? We could only nibble at the mountain of food!
It is so very easy in this age of the world at our finger tips, to exchange that which is priceless for that which is worthless and that which is precious for that which is passing! Some of the things seem harmless and yet they are thieves of our appetite for God. If we leave our appetite for things of God, we become spiritually anorexic! Some leave off hungering for the word of God, prayer, God’s presence, and sharing their faith, until they no longer have hunger pains for these most virtuous things!
I have good news if you have lost your appetite for the things of God! You can begin again right now to call on the Lord to restore your hunger for more of Him! He will reinstate a burning desire in you for His presence! The psalmist tell us of this most blessed and satisfying place to be: Psalm 16:11 You will show me the path of life; In Your presence [is] fullness of joy; At Your right hand [are] pleasures forevermore.
My precious Brother or Sister in Christ, how He longs to fill us with more than our hearts can even wish! Heaven help us do away with any and everything that takes away our appetite for Jesus!
Every blessing!
