GROWING OLDER & GROWING CLOSER

“As God by creation made two of one, so again by marriage He made one of two.”
Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. Pro. 5:18
We’ve all seen “that” couple sitting in the restaurant, silent and staring in different directions. They have been married for umpteen years and would make you think they are strangers because they can’t make conversation. Sad! I do not believe for a minute that is God’s design for marital union! No! I believe that marriage should better and better with every passing year! I can honestly say that the years, (now 41), have only caused my wife and I to become closer. As much as loved her when I married her, I love her worlds more today!
“The adulterer watches the river turn into a sewer, but the faithful husband sees the water become wine!” (Wiersbe)
Solomon, the author of our featured verse, was not satisfied with that first wife of his youth and was also not satisfied with 700 wives and 300 concubines! How terribly tragic! To rejoice, is to make the choice, that first one you married in your youth, is always the apple of your eye! As the years role by, there is greater and greater reason for rejoicing and growing closer! The very best person you can be married to, is the person you are married to right now! Would have, should have, could have.. Let it go! If you are divorced and remarried, choose to love your spouse with the best love you have to give!
Marriage getting older, should never mean love growing colder! Oh no! A thousand times no! God’s design for growing older is growing closer! Just as Jesus saved the best for last at the wedding in Cana of Galilee (John 2:10), so He is saving the better treasures for the latter days of your union! Hold fast, hug tightly, forgive quickly, speak kindly, flirt constantly, speak romantically, shower affection, laugh often together, cry together, spoil your kids, grandkids and great grandkids together, pray together, worship together, study together, fuel the fire of your love for each other and make everyday a little more loving than the day before! Rejoice together as the joint-heirs of the grace of this life! (1Pet. 3:7)
May the Lord help your marriage to be the one that everyone wants, In Jesus Name! AMEN!
Every blessing!
